The End of X10

Can't find anymore X10 devices?  Me either!  This is because X10 is phasing out some if not all of there old PLC products and is switching to wireless home protection.

Vendors are buying the last remaining PLC devices up and selling them at unbelievable dirt cheap prices.  Once they're gone they're gone.  This isn't a shock as X10 has never been big at keeping their products up to date with modern technology.

But no need to fret.  Smarthome.com's product line of Insteon has basic support of X10 commands and is up to date with modern technology.  But I have to emphasize on the the "basic" support part.

Mythtv .25 Up and Running

After a little time trying to get my computer to work with with a non supported video card I finally just decided to buy a new one.  Nvidia GT430 was my choice because it supports VDPAU and is relatively compact when compared to other video cards while also being relatively cheap.

As hoped for the new video card worked on Mythbuntu 12.04.  During the setup I told mythbuntu to use proprietary drivers and download updates during the install and also to use the nvidia display driver.  Other options to use tv-out I just left disabled as these are for connecting to external TV.

I have an Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 older model and it works pretty darn good. The ATSC/QAM high definition input is really good.  I have an antenna which picks up local ATSC broadcasts and really can't say enough about it.  I also use a SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner for QAM signals.

The analog NSTC side is nice because I just use schedule direct to pop in the XML guide info and and then tell myth to fetch the listings.  Done.  The picture quality is not as nice as I'd hope for but it works.

So far so good and I like being up to date with current software and hardware. The previous version of myth was 24 and using mythbuntu 10.04  So this was quite a big jump.

The Hauppauge 1600 has an IR input and with a little research I came across this site which is very good with many details but easy to follow steps.  Very impressive.
The zilog module was easy to install but only worked after I upgraded my kernel to 3.2.0-29-generic.  The lirc remote works great and it seems I'm in business.

If you have a question regarding myth tv setup you can email or leave a post here. I'm not very good at keeping a journal of all my setups but if I did you'd probably be glad I didn't.  So just ask.
